August 27, 2008 - Warren Consolidated Schools Administration Building

The administration made a last minute call to your bargaining team to meet tonight to talk about an "exciting" new offer. Your team cancelled all their personal events for the evening to be there. But, it was all for not as their proposal was regressive from where we left on Tuesday at 1:30 A.M. While your team is sorry to report this, we are committed to getting a fair and equitable contract. Please visit WarrenEA.org for more surprise postings in the future.

August 25, 2008 - Warren Education Association Office

Your bargaining team worked into the night in an effort to settle this contract. Finally, at 1:30 A.M., over 12 hours after we had begun for the day, negations ended without an agreement.

WEA General Membership Crisis Meeting: Wednesday, August 27 at 8:00 a.m. at the Ukrainian Cultural Center at 26601 Ryan Road in Warren (south of 11 Mile Road). It is extremely important that all members attend to get the latest bargaining and crisis information.

August 21, 2008 - Warren Consolidated Schools Administration Building

Today was a very unfortunate day at the bargaining table. In the last full day of bargaining before Labor Day, administration, out of nowhere, produced a new attack of our health care benefits. We, as your bargaining team, clearly hear you and know how important your benefits are to you. We need your help to continue to reinforce this fact. It is imperative that you attend our WEA General Membership CRISIS Meeting on Wednesday, August 27. At this meeting we will be able to give you more information that you cannot afford to miss.

NOTE: There is one last half day of bargaining scheduled before school begins set for Monday, August 25th at 1:00PM. Updates will be available after the session. For more information on the General Membership Crisis Meeting logon to our Members Section.

August 20, 2008 - Warren Education Association Office

Yesterday, August 19, the administration informed the WEA that they would not be prepared to bargain today, August 20. Therefore, there was no meeting today. Instead, your bargaining team met to work on more proposals and counters for tomorrow's meeting. Bargaining will resume tomorrow, Thursday, August 21 at 9:00AM with updates available soon after at WarrenEA.org.

August 14, 2008 - Warren Education Association Office

Today, at the bargaining table, we had some very frank discussions regarding the issues you have told us are the most important for you and your family. While we are pleased that the parties are finally having these conversations, we are disappointed at how far the parties are apart this close to the start of the school year. There is still, however, a lot of negotiating to be done.

Your team continues to be optimistic that a settlement can be reached before school begins, but we are also realistic that there is a chance school will start without a contract in place. Our next scheduled session is next Wednesday, August 20. The parties have also agreed to a new bargaining session for Thursday, August 21. Your team is committed to working around the clock, if necessary, to bring back to you a fair and equitable contract. As the student start date of September 2, 2008 approaches, you will be receiving e-mails, phone calls and information from the WEA to prepare you for the start of the school year. Come back to WarrenEA.org next week for updates on Wednesday and our newly scheduled Thursday session.

August 13, 2008 - Warren Education Association Office

Despite our best efforts, we are not seeing the progress at the bargaining table that we would like at this point. We have made good progress in cleaning up language but the core issues dealing with financials continue to be sidestepped by the administration. We are hopeful that tomorrow brings more conversations that will move us toward our goal. Stay tuned for more updates.

August 12, 2008 - Warren Education Association Office

Bargaining resumed today with a full day at the table. Your bargaining team picked up where we left off two weeks ago and was able to make some more small progress toward our goal of reaching a tentative agreement before the beginning of school. Our next session is scheduled for tomorrow morning at 8:30AM.

August 11, 2008 - Warren Education Association Office

On Thursday, August 7, the administration informed the WEA that they would not be prepared to bargain on Monday, August 11. Therefore, there was no meeting today. Bargaining will resume Tuesday, August 12 at 8:30AM with updates available soon after at WarrenEA.org.

July 24, 2008 - Warren Consolidated Schools Administration Building

We met this morning at which time Administration presented a new economic proposal. Your bargaining team then offered eleven new counter proposals after which a recess was agreed upon until 1:15PM to allow each team to discuss the proposals. Upon reconvening, we countered the economic proposal and a few items were Tentatively Agreed upon by both sides. Administration then asked to recess for the week.  Our next scheduled bargaining session is set for August 11th as Administration will be bargaining with 1815 and 1346 in the interim. However, your bargaining team has made it clear that they are willing to bargain at any time at any place.

July 23, 2008 - Warren Consolidated Schools Administration Building

This morning's session started productively with counter proposals exchanged and discussion held. We recessed at 9:30AM to further discuss and work within our own team. The teams returned to the table after lunch where the administration asked to end for the day and come back tomorrow at 8:30AM, as scheduled.

July 22, 2008 - Warren Education Association Office

Today's bargaining session started promptly at 8:30AM and began with us hearing the counters and proposals from the administration. During that time, we were able to Tentatively Agree to ten of our previous non-monetary proposals. With 95% of the proposals on the table, our work is still cut out for us. However, today, we took our first "baby" step toward our goal of reaching a contract. Our next meeting is again set for tomorrow at 8:30AM.

July 21, 2008 - Warren Consolidated Schools Administration Building

Returning from last Tuesday's adjournment where administration was given Tuesday afternoon and all day Wednesday to "digest, think about and consider" our proposals as well as prepare their own, administration was ready to begin approximately an hour late at 9:32AM. At 10:10AM, administration had finished presenting their nine proposals and counters to ours from last week. We caucused for ten minutes then offered our comments and asked to see the rest of their positions. Unfortunately, administration needed more time and requested to adjourn for the day. We ended at 11:24AM. Since, we had expected a full day of bargaining, your team choose to utilize the free afternoon to work as a team to prepare counter proposals to those submitted today, as well as conduct research to further support our bargaining positions. We have our next meeting scheduled for tomorrow morning at 8:30AM. Administration "commits" to having the rest of the proposals ready for tomorrow's meeting, as well as counters to our proposals from last week. We are hopeful that tomorrow will be long and productive day and that we will have more concrete updates available at that time. Come back to WarrenEA.org tomorrow for the latest updates.

July 15, 2008 - Warren Consolidated Schools Administration Building

Bargaining continued this morning at 8:30 at the administration building. As expected, our proposals were presented within the first hour. At that time, the administration asked to adjourn for the week. The administration commended our bargaining team for its hard work and thorough proposals. After some conversation, it was decided in order to let the administration "digest, think about and consider" our proposals, we would recess until Monday at 8:30AM. We are prepared to bargain long hours next week in order to move these negotiations forward and achieve a tentative agreement. Come back to WarrenEA.org next week for continued updates.

July 14, 2008 - Warren Consolidated Schools Administration Building

Our bargaining team once again met with the administration this morning at 8:30 to continue bargaining. During the day, most of our proposals were put forth. Our next meeting will be tomorrow at 8:30AM where we anticipate to complete our presentation within the first hour. After that, the administration is expected to offer counter proposals and to begin to present their proposals. Stay tuned to WarrenEA.org for more updates.

June 26, 2008 - Warren Education Association Office

This morning, after an hour and half presentation by the superintendent, the bargaining teams met for the first time. Ground rules were established. We presented some initial proposals. Both sides agreed to set the first day of school for students as September 2, 2008; the first day for teachers has not been set at this time. Our next bargaining session is set for July 14, 2008. Check back after July 14th for further updates.

June 25, 2008 - Warren Education Association Office

Your bargaining team met this morning to finalize our last two-month's worth of work before tomorrow first official full table session. We will be meeting at 8:00AM and will have an update here at www.WarrenEA.org soon after the session ends.

Please check back in the next couple of weeks for information regarding 2008 bargaining.
