Committees and Boards
The Board of Reference is the judicial body of the WEA. If consists
of five members appointed by the President, and approved by the Congress
each June. The members of the Board of Reference serve three-year, staggard
terms. They handle any disputes that come up within the union.
The Board of Trustees is the executive body of the union. It is comprised
of the President, Vice President, Congressional Trustee, four Zone Trustees,
and the Executive Director. All members are elected for two-year term,
with the exception of the Executive Director who is hired by the WEA
and the Fitzgerald Education Association.
Independent Michigan Political Action Committee of Teachers (IMPACT)
is the political action arm of the Warren Education Association and Fitzgerald Education Association. It is governed by its own board
of trustees, who are elected by WEA and FEA members to alternating two-year
terms. They make decisions about supporting candidates and issues that
impact all or our lives as public education employees.
The bargaining team represents the WEA during contract negotiations. It is
chaired by the President and reports
to the Board of Trustees, Congress and the membership.
The Curriculum Steering Committee (CSC) is a joint committee consisting
of 7 WEA members, 6 school administrators, and 1 central office administrator.
This committee recommends changes in curriculum that are later approved
by the school board. The CSC also controls a budget that may be used
by WEA members for attending conferences and workshop. Each member is
elligible every other year for these purposes. Applications are available
in your building. Six of the seven members from the WEA are elected
by level for two year-alternating terms. The seventh member is appointed
by the President.
The PR Committee is a vital part of the WEA. It organizes many different
projects, including Read Across America, Fall poster contest, Showcasing
Public Schools, and the new teacher TGIF's just to name a few. Members
of the committee are appointed by the President and approved by Congress.
The PSD committee is governed by our contract. There are eight members,
four from the administration and four WEA members appointed by the President.
Each year, PSD has a budget to give to WEA members to assist them in
attending smaller conferences/activities. Each member is elligible to
apply every other year to cover costs associated with conferences or
projects.
